Narnia

So, before the whole job-thing happened today, I went to see The Chronicles of Narnia yesterday. Together with 10 other Willemstraaters! That was cool.
The movie was good! And I cried, quite a lot actually.
I thought that the part where Aslan gets killed was just so cruel. Well, actually the part just before he gets killed.
I thought everyone would cry. But no. Just me and Cecilia.

By the way, I thought the White Witch was cool! (even though she's evil)

And, Mr. Tumnus is kinda cute!

But I did get the deeper meaning behind the story, ofcourse.

I got a job!!!

Oh my goodness, I got a job!!!
As an Air Flight Reservation Agent. Which means: handling phone calls from customers who want to book flights for KLM, Northwest Airlines, Air France and Transavia.
I had the job interview this morning and it was pretty intense. It took over an hour. The people I talked to told me a lot about the work and the company, but the more they told me, the more I started doubting if I really wanted this job.
A couple of hours later the job agency called me to let me know I got the job! The woman from the job agency told me that apparently I seemed to be very critical during my job interview, and that's why the people I talked with kept asking me difficult questions.
Anyway, I'm excited!
I'm looking forward to making some money ;)

Wow, can't believe I got a job and a place to live in AMSTERDAM!!!

The 80's rule!

At this moment I'm working at the reception listening to some cheesy 80's music that Dave is playing in the cafe.
It's cool, it's happy music!
Marco wants to organize an 80's birthday/goodbye party. GREAT IDEA!
Sounds like fun. I'm a child of the 80's!
Ooh, Dave's playing "Take on me" by A-ha, love that one!!!

So, I changed the background of my blog again. I'm not sure about this one, though.
I think I'll keep on searching for a better one.

You have two cows...

POLITICS EXPLAINED:

FEUDALISM: You have two cows. Your lord takes some of the milk.
PURE SOCIALISM: You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else's cows. You have to take care of all the cows. The government gives you as much milk as you need.
BUREAUCRATIC SOCIALISM: You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else's cows. They are cared for by ex-chicken farmers. You have to take care of the chickens the government took from the chicken farmers. The government gives you as much milk and as many eggs as the regulations say you should need.
FASCISM: You have two cows. The government takes both, hires you to take care of them, and sells you the milk.
PURE COMMUNISM: You have two cows. Your neighbours help you take care of them, and you all share the milk.
RUSSIAN COMMUNISM: You have two cows. You have to take care of them, but the government takes all the milk.
DICTATORSHIP: You have two cows. The government takes both and shoots you.
SINGAPOREAN DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. The government fines you for keeping two unlicensed farm animals in an apartment.
MILITARIANISM: You have two cows. The government takes both and drafts you.
PURE DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. Your neighbours decide who gets the milk.
REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. Your neighbours pick someone to tell you who gets the milk.
AMERICAN DEMOCRACY: The government promises to give you two cows if you vote for it. After the election, the president is impeached for speculating in cow futures. The press dubs the affair "Cowgate".
BRITISH DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. You feed them sheeps' brains and they go mad. The government doesn't do anything.
BUREAUCRACY: You have two cows. At first the government regulates what you can feed them and when you can milk them. Then it pays you not to milk them. After that it takes both, shoots one, milks the other and pours the milk down the drain. Then it requires you to fill out forms accounting for the missing cows.
ANARCHY: You have two cows. Either you sell the milk at a fair price or your neighbours try to kill you and take the cows.
CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull.
HONG KONG CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell three of them to your publicly - listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother - in - - law at the bank, then execute a debt / equity swap with associated general offer so that you get all four cows back, with a tax deduction for keeping five cows. The milk rights of six cows are transferred via a Panamanian intermediary to a Cayman Islands company secretly owned by the majority shareholder, who sells the rights to all seven cows' milk back to the listed company. The annual report says that the company owns eight cows, with an option on one more. Meanwhile, you kill the two cows because the fung shui is bad.
ENVIRONMENTALISM: You have two cows. The government bans you from milking or killing them.
FEMINISM: You have two cows. They get married and adopt a veal calf.
TOTALITARIANISM: You have two cows. The government takes them and denies they ever existed. Milk is banned.
POLITICAL CORRECTNESS: You are associated with (the concept of "ownership" is a symbol of the phallo - centric, war - mongering, intolerant past) two differently - aged (but no less valuable to society) bovines of non - specified gender.
COUNTER CULTURE: Wow, dude, there's like... these two cows, man. You got to have some of this milk.
SURREALISM: You have two giraffes. The government requires you to take harmonica lessons.

Life...

I have been really lazy lately. That's why I didn't update my Blog.
Wait a minute, I have not been lazy at all! I had a job interview, I went looking for an appartment and I've been busy planning my future!
Actually, I'm just a bit tired.

I've been surrounded by wise people lately. Which is very good, because they help me in my search of what I want for my time after the Shelter. And at the same time they made me realize that I should relax and enjoy the time I have still left here.
So that's what I'm doing!

Life is still good!

Hey y'all

So, Brussels was nice. I saw the beautiful Grand Place, Manneken Pis and the Atomium.
Unfortunately, the weather was really sucky on my second day there.
It was good to be somewhere else for a while, but I discovered that travelling alone is not my thing.

Life has been good the last few days!
I had a great talk and good "coffee" yesterday! Makes me happy.

Brussels!

I'm going to Brussels for two days! I'm sooo looking forward to it.
It will be the first time I travel all alone and it will be my first time staying at a hostel.
I think it will make me understand better how our guests at the Shelter feel!
But that's not why I'm going.
I just felt like travelling and seeing some other places and other faces.
And I didn't leave the country yet this year. I always wanna visit at least one new place a year.
I hope it will be fun.
But how could it not be when there's Belgian chocolate? (and beer...)

Room searching

As you may know, I'm looking for a room in Amsterdam. I was looking on kamernet.nl and saw this available room. Check the spelling, very funny!

In a nice invoriment( centre) there is a room for hire.We are a male couple. De room is availble temperurly but we can discuse about the period of time.the price is inclusive water, electricity etc.

Hmm, I don't think I wanna live with a male couple....

I love my friends and possible future housemates Magda and Marco!
They're taking me shopping for my birthday!
What more could I want? I'm excited! (read in 'Ryan-way'!)

Haircut

Woohoo, I got a haircut!
It's pretty short, and I like it a lot!
Thanks to the lovely Melana, who cut my hair.
So, I think I should probably take a picture of me and my new hair and post it here.
So you can all see it and tell me how cute I look! :) Just kidding!

And: counting down 5 more days 'till my 25th birthday!

Tourists

I wish all tourists that visit Amsterdam would read this:

Avoid walking along the bicycle lanes.
The lanes are usually clearly marked with a bike symbol on the way. These are express-roads through the city in which the bike rules. Avoid walking on, and standing in bike lanes looking at maps, chat around, etc. This drives locals mad. When you hear a bike bell, get quickly out of the way.

It does drive locals mad! I'm not sure if I'm a local, though. Still a Frisian girl!

I found this travel tip on www.amsterdam.info

Would you rather...

We were playing the 'would you rather-game' at the Canadian Thanksgiving party we had a week ago. And then I saw Matt writing about it on his blog.
So, would you rather:

-lose all your teeth, or lose all the hair on your body (my vanity makes it hard for me to choose)
-die by drowning, or being burned alive
-kill or be killed
-be ugly but loved by everyone, or gorgeous and hated by everyone
-swim with sharks, or eat raw jellyfish (sounds like a Fear Factor challenge)
-read my blog, or read other peoples blogs (this shouldn't even be a question)

And we had some other fun questions. Like what movie character would you most like to be.
I want to be Rose from Titanic. 'Cause I think she's cool and she's sooo beautiful.
Or what movie would you pick if you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life. I would watch Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King over and over. I think it's the best LOTR movie. Unless you count all three of them as one. Then I would watch them all!
I like questions like this. I think they can tell you something about someone's personality.

Anyway, I saw Jamie Oliver today! He was signing his books at the Bijenkorf. I only saw him sitting behind the window, but still! And a while ago I thought I saw the actor who used to play Bud Bundy in Married with Children, but I'm not sure. And I didn't wanna ask him 'cause I don't even know his real name. It's funny to see celebrities.

Amsterdam is really beautiful in the fall. The trees look so nice! Tomorrow I hava a day of and I'm either going to have a walk in the Amsterdamse Bos, or walk around the city and take some pictures, ooh..or go to Vondelpark! I have to force myself to get up at a reasonable hour then, otherwise I will just sleep in and waste my free time in my bed!

So, I hope that everyone who asked me to update my blog is satisfied.

Another tip!

Here's another tip to be thankful for: Read Dave's Blog!!!
It's soooooo funny! I had to laugh out loud!

In the year 2525...

Does anyone know that song? I'm not sure if that's the title, but I remember listening to it in the car with my parents , every summer when we went camping somewhere in Europe.
It's a year of 2's and 5's en 25's this year. It's 2005. In one month from today I'll turn 25.
My parents have been married for 25 years, and my grandparents for 50, and our Queen started her reigning 25 years ago.

So, I'll be 25. It sounds so mature. I've been feeling more like an adult lately. I started drinking coffee and I ate some mouldy cheese! (I bet I didn't seem that mature when I confessed that I love Barbie)
Next thing to do is to move out of my parents house for good! Scary...

Anyway, I saw some great movies lately: "Amadeus" and "Les Miserables". Very, very good! Go rent them and watch them! That was my tip for the day! You can thank me later :)

Confessions of a restless mind

Why is it that sometimes I feel the need to express some personal things on my blog? Maybe I hope that someone will reassure me and say "Nynke, you're not weird. I have the same thing!"
Anyhow, here are some confessions:

-I love Barbie! Seriously.
-I'm jealous of my friend who's pregnant
-I have a problem with addiction. I'm addicted to shopping, listening to music and to sugar!
-I seriously lack self discipline, in a big big way!
-I worry about the future...a lot!
-I want people to think of me as elegant and feminine

That's enough info for today. Hope you still like me!

Signs

PRAISE THE LORD FOR QUICKLY ANSWERED PRAYERS
AND A SIGN I DIDN'T DARE TO ASK FOR!

Do you believe in signs from God? Do you believe it's okay to ask God for a sign?
I find it a very tricky thing. Because when you ask for a sign about something, it's so easy to see a sign when it isn't there.

So, I was praying about a certain thing with a friend of mine and we asked God for some clarity. But I think I was afraid to ask God for a sign. Maybe God doesn't want to tell us everything and we just have to learn to trust Him. But the very next day something happened that looked like a sign to me........twice! So, I feel like He gave me sign I didn't ask for! How awesome is God!

What are your thoughts on signs?

Yes, I'm still alive!

I don't even know what to write.
It's not like my life is boring or uneventful or anything.
But nothing stands out at the moment.
My head's full of thoughts, but I guess they're a bit to personal to mention.
So, I guess this is all for now.
How lame!!!
Oh wait, I thought of something! We might get an aquarium at reception!
How cool is that!

Dinner

Yesterday I prepared dinner for 20 people in less than 2 hours, including a vegetarian meal with tofu! Quite impressive I think.

I'm not bragging, I'm just a little proud of myself!

Lesson nr.1

Lesson learned today:

Do not attend any meeting, gathering or whatever for any other reason than actually wanting to be there. It's most unsatisfying!!!

Example: do not go to a birthday party for the food if you don't like the person whose birthday it is. In other words: no ulterior motives!

Mr Darcy!

Bryan McFadyen in Pride and Prejudice

Martin Henderson in Bride and Prejudice

Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice

Who do you think is the cutest (or hottest, or whatever) Mr Darcy of them all?

(My goodness, I'm so superficial!)
